Plant Health

In order to have a healthy crop we need to have healthy plants. A plant that is healthy from a production point of view is one that grows and yields well throughout its seasonal cycle. In order for a plant to have good health it needs to be in an environment that promotes conditions that favour vegetative growth, flowering, pollination, fruit set and development.

Many external factors determine plant health. Some of these include; (1). Soil health, (2). Nutrition requirements and availability within the crop cycle, (3). water management, (4). pests and diseases and (5). seasonal climatic conditions.

Many of these external factors can cause plant stress which in turn lowers the plants immune system and its ability to cope with pest and disease pressure.

Using an integrated holistic approach to crop management can help minimize plant stress to promote conditions that favour plant health. The "Ecoganic" approach focuses on creating conditions that favour soil health and at the same time monitors the plants water and nutrient requirements which are scheduled to the crops lifecycle. Crop biodiversity is also balanced to help suppress pests and diseases using IPDM systems.

Plant health using the ecoganic system provides an integrated holistic and organic based system that works with nature and the environment to provide conditions for optimal plant and crop health. Our goal at Hortactix is to work with you and nature to develop conditions that protect your environment and allow your crop to achieve maximum production.
